About Us
The Johnny Therriault School provides quality elementary education for our children and serves a community learning centre. Our students demonstrate a level of academic competence that meets or exceeds provincial standards. They are familiar with the Ojibway language and culture and our deep spiritual beliefs.
They are proud of their accomplishments and heritage and are committed to continuing their education for the benefit of themselves and their community.
Our school is clean, spacious and has modern academic and recreational equipment and facilities. Our teachers and staff are qualified, competent and committed to the needs of the students and community. Our community is proud of our school. Parents and community members actively participate in its governance and operation.
Mission Statement
The Aroland First Nation Education Department will provide quality primary education to the children of Aroland and facilitate other community learning opportunities. We will do this in an environment that recognizes and promotes native language and culture, deep spiritual values and fosters a sense of pride and accomplishment in our community.
Our Values
- We believe that the future of our community is in the hands of our children. We believe that education is the responsibility of the parents, the school, and the community.
- We believe that the community can meet our children’s needs, ensure they reach their full potential, and provide the necessary role models for our children’s success.
- We believe in preserving our native language and culture and instilling a sense of pride, unity, and respect among our students, staff, parents, Board, and community.
- We believe in deep spiritual values and that our children are a gift from the Creator.
- We believe in the leadership of the Board and in the wisdom of our elders.
- We believe that our school will build a strong foundation for our children-spiritually, culturally, academically, physically, emotionally and morally.
